What's a split keyboard with a trackball? It's a keyboard that comes apart into two halves and has the pointer built in. Ours have two trackballs in the thumb area, one for moving the cursor and one for scrolling, so you don't need a mouse at all.
Which split keyboards actually have built-in trackballs? Ours do. The Crosses/Bridges V2 ) and Levels54 both ship with two trackballs. Most of the popular splits, like the Dygma Defy, ZSA Voyager, and MoErgo Glove80, don't, so you end up adding an accessory or keeping a mouse around.
Why put a trackball on a keyboard? Because reaching for a mouse all day is half the problem. Every reach pulls your hand out of position and loads your forearm. Built-in trackballs cut that out and keep your hands home.
What does "split ergonomic" mean? The board separates into two pieces you set at shoulder width. That stops your wrists from bending inward, which is the main thing that turns typing into pain over the years.
How long until I can actually type on one of these? Most people are back to normal speed in one to two weeks. The columns line up with how your fingers move, so it clicks faster than it looks like it will.
Can I use my own switches? Yes. Both boards are hot-swap sockets. Pull a switch, drop a new one in, no soldering.
How customizable is the firmware? Completely. Both run ZMK with Studio, so you remap keys, stack layers, write macros, and tune the trackballs in real time.
Does it work on Windows, Mac, and Linux? Yes, all of our keyboards work on all operating systems.
Are the designs open source? Yes. The files are up on GitHub, so you can print your own case, tweak the design, modify the PCBs, or send a change back.
Kit or pre-built, what's the difference? The kit is cheaper and you assemble it yourself. The build arrives done and tested. Same board either way, same trackballs, same wireless.
